Every place has a boss
Every neighborhood has its actual authorities, and they are not always the ones with offices, stamps, or reflective vests.
A cat looking down from a balcony with mild suspicion. Two sparrows inspecting a puddle as if conducting municipal business. Another cat settled in a tree like a local landowner receiving reports from below. None of them is in a hurry, and none of them appears especially impressed by human arrangements.
Animals in the neighborhood are rarely dramatic. They do not perform for the place; they simply belong to it more naturally than most of us do. They occupy ledges, puddles, fences, branches, and small improvised territories with a confidence that makes the rest of the built world seem provisional.
These three images are small studies in that quiet jurisdiction: the ordinary sovereignty of creatures who never asked permission and have no intention of starting now.
